3 | SETUP FOR WINDOWS 7, VISTA, AND XP
This chapter explains how to install and use the
Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (Bluetooth CHS)
with a Bluetooth enabled computer running
Windows 7, Vista or XP
Before you begin the instructions in this chapter, make sure you have
installed the batteries and charged the scanner, as described in Chapter 2,
“Hardware Setup.”
CONNECTION OPTIONS
For Windows-based computers, the Socket Bluetooth CHS offers three different
connection options to fit different work environments.
Scenario How the Bluetooth
Connection Initiates

Scenario 1: Single
user with one scanner
per PC, no roaming.
Computer initiates the
connection through
Bluetooth software.
Easiest to configure
but requires user to
start connection
through software.

Scenario 2:
Enterprise deployment
with one scanner per
PC, no roaming.
Scanner initiates the
connection automatically
when it is powered on.
(ActivePairing with
Permanent Pair)

configure but
easiest connection
method.
Scenario 3: Enterprise
deployment with
scanner(s) roaming
between different PCs.
Scanner initiates the
connection by reading a
special barcode.
(ActivePairing)
Easy to connect but
requires barcode
generating
software and
printer.

IMPORTANT! REMEMBER THE NUMBER OF THE SCENARIO YOU WANT
TO SET UP THE SOFTWARE FOR!
Note: ActivePairing has been successfully tested with the Microsoft, Broadcom
and Toshiba Bluetooth stacks. Due to the many possible hardware manufacturer
and Bluetooth stack combinations, ActivePairing may not work correctly on all
computers running Windows XP, Vista or 7.
